Train to Win
Chuck Bilot
According to Webster one definition of
training is “to teach so as to make Fit, Qualified, Proficient”. Helping you,
the user, becoming qualified and proficient in the use of the Comsense Suite of
products is the aim of the entire training and support staff at Comsense, Inc.
Comsense believes that proper training of our
clients is very important, and to that end we provide two training options to
suit your needs.
The method most favored by many of our clients
is using the Sametime Meeting Room. This Web-based program allows the trainer
to connect to your computer via the Internet; your actual data is used as the
trainer guides you through the steps required to successfully operate the
Comsense Suite of programs. This method is best suited for a small number of
users at a time because only one computer is online for training at a time.
Multiple sessions may be required in order to provide all users with some
hands-on experience. There is no cost for this training. That's right, it's
Free!
The other method is to have the trainer come to
your office. This face-to-face training has a more classroom like setting and
more users can be involved at one time. Office conference rooms can be used as
mini classrooms for group usage. This method allows the training to be tailored
to the specific work setting with minimal disruption of business. It also
provides the opportunity to discuss how Comsense can be utilized in day to day
operation of your business. On-site training costs $USD600.00 per day plus all
travel related costs and usually requires one week.
Consider which method of training would best
suit your business and we will be happy to work with you.

Passwords: The Front Line Key to Security
Janice Preston
Having a simple or easily guessed
password is like giving a stranger the key to your house. Obviously we all try
to create passwords we will remember, but it is important to remember that the
key to almost every bit of data on your computer comes down to a password. It
will benefit you to choose a password which is not difficult for you to
remember, but hard for another person (hacker) to figure out, as well as being
one you don’t have to write down to remember.
Passwords should be a minimum of 6 characters
long, 7 to 15 characters are the strongest. Passwords should contain mixed-case
alphabetic characters, upper and lower case AND non-alphabetical characters
such as numbers as well as at least one special character such as @, #, or %.
Passwords should NOT contain your first or last
name in any form, your user ID, your spouse’s, child’s or pet’s name. Nor
should you use personal information such as your birthday, family dates, phone
numbers or street name. Company specific words such as McDonald’s, Wal-Mart, or
Mercedes should be avoided. A real threat is common words which are found in a
dictionary, spelling list or other lists of words.
Although it may appear to be difficult to find
a good password which you can remember, it really isn’t that hard. You can
choose a line from a song or book and use the first letter of each word, for
example: From Lord Alfred Tennyson’s poem, The Charge of the Light Brigade –
Into the valley of Death rode the six Hundred, could become ItvoDrt6h. You
could choose a short word or group of words and replace one or more of the
letters with a symbol or number, the * works for any letter, the number 1 does
well as an L or an I and a 3 can serve as an E. the @ symbol can substitute for
the letter A and the & can take the place of the word ‘and’ New Jersey
could become N3W_JE*s3y.
Change your passwords often, at least every two
months. Make sure new passwords are not the same as any of your last 10
passwords. Do not write it down and do not tell it to anyone except your system
administrator. Don’t let a password be the weakest link in the security chain.
It may appear to be a nuisance to you, but a strong password can prevent lost
income for your company and event prevent theft from you personally when you
consider passwords for your debit card or online banking.

eCatalog Update
Neil Teas, AHC
Our second round of hardware price increases for
2004 is quickly coming to an end. I will be completing the YSG product lines
before the month is out. I am currently waiting for new price lists on Bommer,
Arrow and Don-Jo. If you know of any we may be missing please let us know.
The Hollow Metal/Wood Door databases take
considerably longer to update. This is due to two factors. First of all, they
are much more complex and typically require a lot of testing. Secondly we
require two versions, one for our DOS program (AHM) and one for our Windows
program (Advantage/Enterprise). We require a close working relationship with
the manufacturers and typically encounter a few issues that need to be ironed
out by both sides. The good news on this front, of course, is that HM
manufacturers do not update pricing as frequently as hardware manufacturers.
It has been pointed out to us that there has been
a problem with a certain discounting situation. This pertains to instances
where you are using SPECIAL NET pricing on an option. If, after once running an
estimate, you run it again and add an additional discount to the base product,
the system did not recalculate properly. By the time you read this the fix will
be in our update.

Headings cannot be removed or re-built after a change order has been applied.
All openings must be handed before a change order can be applied.
When an opening exists on an opened change order (that is not cancelled) the
