Schedule Your Shop with Enterprise

One of the powerful features being planned into Enterprise is Shop Scheduling.  To help explain this feature read the following example.

ABC distributors have a shop capacity of 120 hours a week.  As Project managers detail projects the labor operations for frames and doors are being added to the cost of the job along with time each of those operations will take.

The Enterprise shop schedule is being populated automatically and time is being scheduled in the shop according to the labor operations on the project.  Since ABC is so busy the shop schedule for the week quickly reaches capacity and now some decisions need to be made.

In ABC’s daily project planning meeting the Enterprise Shop Schedule is projected on the meeting room projection screen and the project managers begin to discuss project deadlines and need for shop time.  As the details are hammered out the Enterprise shop schedule is updated.

Enterprise shop scheduling tool gives you the ability to see your business in real time, make educated decisions, and avoid costly last minute fabrication.  As the shop manager looks at this report daily he can adjust shop capacity hours accordingly.

For example, you may recognize that a project is going to tie up two frame fabrication lines and so you open a third to increase capacity and satisfy customer demand.  On the same note you may notice that you have extra capacity for the week so you decide to bring some of next week’s schedule into the current week.

With the Enterprise Shop Scheduling tool you see and eliminate the problem before it escalates into a crisis.

e.Catalog Update

by Neil Teas, AHC – Director of Catalog Development

You may have noticed a large download for catalogs in the recent past.  Anyone subscribing to catalog images for the Advantage software also received a CD in the mail.  Why?  Milt Allred, AHC has been working tirelessly to expand and cross reference catalog cut images with product definitions.  For you this means even less time at the copier and more time concentrating on new work.

Comsense Inc. catalog cuts are tailored to the specific product being built so you don’t have to spend time circling and highlighting information on full catalog cut pages.  Because Advantage integrates fully with Microsoft Word you can also transmit the entire submittal electronically, pictures and all.

If at any time you notice product missing from any of the e.Catalogs please send me an e.Mail with the product information so I can get it added.  My e.Mail address is neil.teas@comsenseinc.com

Until next month happy computing.

Program Updates

The most current version of the Opening Suite by Comsense Inc. which includes SpecWriter, Advantage, and Elevations is 1.01.214.

There are many enhancements in this version of the software listed below are some of the more prominent ones:

1.      Hardware Product Labor Operation
You can now attach labor operations to hardware products so you can more effectively estimate the cost of a project.

2.      Extended Report Options
Reports can be sorted by manufacturer, opening number, opening type, etc.  To access these options do the following

a.      Open the report window under estimating or detailing

b.      Open a project

c.      After choosing a report the options for that report appear in the bottom half of the window

d.      Click on the pencil to the right of the option to view different report options such as sort order, printing options, and more.

3.      Product Notepad
Though this feature has been with Advantage since its release to the market, it is worth mentioning again.  If you have special instructions for a single piece of hardware, you can write those instructions in the product notepad.  Right click on any product and from the menu choose product notepad.

The notes from product note pad will print with the hardware schedule right under the product for which the note applies.

Each month the Program Updates section of the e.News letter will contain information on the most current version of the software and enhancements that have been made.
